Florida's Newest Endurance Event Set for October

The Longboat Key Chamber of Commerce will hold the Island's 2nd Annual Triathlon and Duathlon, on Sunday, October 23, 2011. Hosted at the Longboat Key Club & Resort, the endurance event will start at 7:45 a.m. and include a .50-mile swim, 20-mile bike and 5-mile run.

We are projecting a field of approximately 500+ participants for this event, and are happy to welcome them during our traditionally slower fall season. Longboat Key's temperatures and flat terrain are perfect for competitive endurance athletes, and every aspect of the race was designed with competitor safety in mind.

The triathlon will begin with a half-mile swim in the lagoon just south of the Club property, followed by a 20-mile bike along Gulf of Mexico Drive. The final leg of the race will be a five-mile run through the Longboat Key Club & Resort property, offering outstanding views of the grounds and golf course.

We are hoping the triathlon will draw as many as 1,500 participants in the near future, and will soon become one of the top triathlons nationwide.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

One of the critical ingredients in a successful triathlon is VOLUNTEERS. Volunteers make it possible to conduct a safe, well-organized event and are needed in a variety of areas. As many as 150 volunteers will be needed for the event.
